Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week: Chalk the Walk in Southern Maryland May 6-11, 2024

Raising Awareness Through Art: Calvert County Hosts ‘Chalk the Walk’ Event During Mental Health Week

The “Chalk the Walk” event is coming to Calvert County to raise awareness for children’s mental health. Organized by the Calvert County Family Network (CCFN) and Department of Parks & Recreation, in collaboration with several local organizations and businesses, the event will take place during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week from May 5-11.

Residents are encouraged to participate by using chalk to create drawings, positive messages, and words of encouragement on designated public sidewalks or their own property. The goal is to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and facilitate open conversations about children’s mental health and overall well-being. To share their artwork with the community, residents can use the hashtag #CalvertMentalHealthMatters on social media.

Several drop-in chalk events will be held from May 6-11 at locations such as the Calvert County Circuit Courthouse, Calvert Library branches, CalvertHealth Medical Center, Calvert County Behavioral Health locations, Calvert County Parks & Recreation Community Centers, and the Community Resources Building in Prince Frederick.

Calvert County provides numerous resources for youth and families dealing with mental health issues. To access local resources, individuals can visit OurCalvert.org or reach out to the Local Care Team via the county’s website.
