Rutgers standout Clifford Omoruyi moves to Alabama: Former top shot-blocker in the nation transferred her last season

Alabama Strengthens SEC Position with Transfer of Highly Ranked Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers

In the 2024-25 season, Alabama’s men’s basketball team received a commitment from highly ranked big man Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers through the transfer portal. This move adds to their roster and strengthens their position in the SEC. Omoruyi was ranked as the No. 13 player in CBS Sports’ Transfer Rankings, and he is known for his shot-blocking abilities and impressive stats from last season at Rutgers.

Over his four seasons at Rutgers, Omoruyi started 104 games, averaging 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 26 minutes per game. His presence on defense will be a valuable asset to Alabama as they continue to compete for SEC championships and beyond.

With this commitment, Alabama has added four transfers this offseason to their roster, including Omoruyi along with Aden Holloway from Auburn, Chris Youngblood from USF, and Houston Mallette from Pepperdine. Despite losing key players from their Final Four roster, Alabama is making moves to strengthen their team with transfers and recruits. The team has the No. 2 recruiting class from the 2024 cycle, which includes top prospects like five-star center Derrion Reid and four-star players like Aiden Sherrell, Labaron Philon, and Naas Cunningham.
