Waterloo woman’s plans for equine therapy business derailed by tornado as she loses beloved horse

Grief and Resilience: Victoria Fluhart’s Journey to Honor Her Beloved Horse through Equine Therapy

Victoria Fluhart and her husband, Justin, experienced a tragic event when a tornado struck Waterloo. The couple had recently moved to the area to start an equine business on a property owned by Brandon Johnson of Jamico Construction. Just days before hosting an open house for her new equine therapy business, Victoria found herself putting herself at risk during the storm, determined to save the horses on the property.

Unfortunately, Onyx, Victoria’s beloved mare of 18 years who had been with her every step of the way as friend, partner, champion, business partner and therapist was killed in the tornado. Despite being devastated by the loss, Victoria is determined to continue pursuing her dream of equine therapy in honor of Onyx.

The community in Waterloo came together to assist with clean-up efforts after the storm and the Fluharts are grateful for their support. They are looking towards a brighter future and are motivated to rebuild their lives and continue working towards their goal of hosting an open house for their equine therapy business. Thanks to community donations, they hope to have a small building constructed by summer where they can eventually host their open house. Their determination remains strong despite the challenges they have faced.
