Exploring the Sustainability of Returns in Iraq’s Reimagining Reintegration Districts: Insights from a Comprehensive Study
The Reimagining Reintegration research project conducted by IOM Iraq and Social Inquiry has produced a brief on the sustainability of returns in 14 districts with the highest number of returnees in the country. These districts, ranked by the number of returns, include Mosul, Ramadi, Falluja, Telafar, Tikrit, Heet, Hawija, Hamdaniya, Shirqat, Kirkuk, Baiji, Sinjar, Khanaqin and Balad.
The study was based on data collected from an original household survey and roster of 2,260 returnee respondents in the above-mentioned districts between March and April 2022. The survey included modules on household situations, personal perceptions and individual characteristics of household members. It covered topics ranging from demographics to displacement history and conflict safety standards of living livelihoods housing conditions civil documentation social cohesion public participation remedies justice.
The project also includes an analysis of sustainable reintegration in districts of return as well as a brief examining differences between male and female-headed households their implications for sustainable return.
