Biden criticizes xenophobia as cause of economic troubles in China, Japan, and India

Biden Calls for Embracing Immigrants to Drive Economic Growth in 2024 Re-election Campaign

President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of embracing immigrants during a Washington fundraising event for his 2024 re-election campaign and the start of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. He pointed out that countries like China, Japan, and India are experiencing economic difficulties due to xenophobia and their reluctance to welcome immigrants. Biden believes that immigrants play a crucial role in strengthening a country and driving its economic success.

According to the International Monetary Fund, countries like Japan and India are projected to experience a slowdown in growth in 2024, while the United States is expected to have a slightly more brisk growth rate. Economists attribute part of the United States’ economic success to the contributions of migrants expanding the country’s labor force. However, concerns about irregular migration have become a significant issue for many U.S. voters leading up to the presidential election in November.

President Biden has been working to cultivate economic and political ties with countries like Japan and India to counterbalance the influence of China and Russia on a global scale. He has criticized the anti-immigrant rhetoric of his opponent Donald Trump and is advocating for a more inclusive approach to immigration in order to drive economic growth and sustain U.S. prosperity moving forward.
