Winners Announced for Wyoming’s Favorite Baby Names

Wyoming Sees Uptick in Births in 2023; Pop Culture References and Diversity Dominate Top Baby Names

In 2023, Wyoming experienced an increase in the number of births among its residents. According to Vital Statistics Services (VSS), part of the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), Evelyn emerged as the top female name among newborns, while Henry led the race for male names.

The top ten female names for newborns in Wyoming included Amelia, Olivia, Harper, Charlotte, Hazel, Eleanor, Lainey, Oakley, and Aurora. For boys, Henry was followed by Jack and Wyatt in second place. Elijah, Carter, Asher, Theodore, Benjamin Waylon and Noah also made the list.

Kyndra Herrera from VSS noted that there was a greater variety of top names in 2023 compared to previous years. Parents consider various factors when choosing names for their children such as family names or cultural influences. However, pop culture references have also become increasingly popular choices. The total number of births among Wyoming residents was 5989 in 2023 compared to 6050 in 2022.

Despite an overall downward trend in births over the years, Wyoming experienced more births than deaths among residents in 2023. Herrera pointed out that many mothers choose to deliver their babies outside of the state due to geographic convenience or personal preference. Alternatively medical necessity may have been a factor as well.

The month with the highest number of resident births was August with 553 births while February had the lowest number at 449 births. VSS plays a vital role in promoting and protecting the health of Wyoming residents by maintaining all vital records in the state and providing health information and reports on their website.

In conclusion , it’s evident that parents are becoming more diverse when it comes to naming their children with cultural influences and pop culture references being more popular choices today .
