World Leaders Gather at Burgenstock for Ukraine Peace Summit Amid Russian Uncertainty
A peace summit for Ukraine is set to take place next month in Burgenstock, Switzerland. The event aims to bring together world leaders to explore ways to achieve long-lasting peace and serve as an inspiration for a potential future peace process. Any agreements made during the summit will adhere to the UN Charter and international law, which aim to uphold peace and security globally.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of the summit, stating that it goes beyond Ukraine and is of interest to all peace-loving nations. He emphasized the significance of respecting international law, promoting peaceful coexistence worldwide, and recognizing every nation’s global role.
Despite not yet receiving an invitation, the Swiss government stressed the importance of involving Russia in the peace process. However, Russia announced last week that it would not be participating in the event. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed that talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine would be meaningless without Russia’s involvement.
The summit is scheduled to take place on 15-16 June, but Russia’s participation remains uncertain at this time.
