UCLA and Brown Universities: Differences in Protests and Responses
Pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place at UCLA University in Los Angeles, where clashes erupted between protesters and counter-protesters. Firecrackers and tear gas were thrown amid the chaos as dozens of counter-protesters attempted to break down the barrier made of safety rails and plywood that separated the two groups.
According to reports from the UCLA student newspaper, supporters of Israel were seen forcefully removing pro-Palestinian tents and engaging in confrontations with them. The mayor of Los Angeles responded to the situation by calling for the police to intervene at UCLA University, where ongoing clashes continued.
Meanwhile, at Brown University, students at the protest camp agreed to vacate the area in exchange for a vote on diverting investments from companies linked to Israel. The university’s president expressed appreciation for the students’ efforts to prevent further escalation of tensions during the protests.
