Firstpost: US escalates efforts to block technology flow to Russia for weapons

U.S. Takes Steps to Prevent American Businesses from Unintentionally Supporting Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

American supporters gathered near the White House in Washington, US to protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They expressed their solidarity with Ukraine in the face of the ongoing conflict. In response to concerns that American commodities could be used to support Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine, the US has requested that over 600 foreign parties cease exporting these supplies. The goal is to prevent these materials from being transferred to Russia and used in its invasion of Ukraine.

The US Commerce Department sent letters to at least 20 corporations that produce and market parts used in drones and missiles found in Ukraine. The aim is to disrupt Russia’s military operations and limit its access to Western technologies. Despite the sanctions imposed by the US and other nations on Moscow, American components have been discovered in Russian weapons left on the battlefield in Ukraine.

Assistant Secretary Matthew Axelrod stated that US officials from various departments are working with companies to prevent their products from being used by Russia in the conflict. The US is taking steps to ensure that American businesses are not inadvertently contributing to Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine.

To prevent this, the US government is urging American companies to voluntarily stop shipping certain supplies or products directly or indirectly, through third-party intermediaries, or through subsidiaries, joint ventures or affiliates located outside of their country of origin. This will help reduce the risk of these supplies ending up in Russian hands.

In addition, Axelrod emphasized that companies must take responsibility for their actions and work with government agencies and regulators to ensure compliance with export control laws. He also urged them not only comply with existing regulations but also take proactive measures such as conducting due diligence on customers or partners before engaging business activities with them.

Overall, the US government is committed to preventing Russia’s use of Western technologies and components for its military purposes and ensuring that American businesses do not unintentionally contribute towards it.
