Canutillo Independent School District secures $386 million for upgrades to schools and technology

Canutillo ISD Leaders Excited About $386 Million in Funds for School Improvements Amid Mixed Feelings in Community

Canutillo ISD leaders are excited about the recent passage of $386 million in funds for the district. The district is looking forward to making positive changes with state-of-the-art facilities, repairs to school buildings, upgrades to HVAC systems, and improved safety and security measures for students.

The district had to approve two proposals – Proposition A for $379 million for school repairs, security upgrades, and career training, and Proposition B for $7.2 million for technology infrastructure. Both measures passed by a close margin after two previous failed votes. Despite the positive outcomes, some residents expressed concerns about the increase in property taxes that will be used to raise the funds. One resident, Matt Stopana, mentioned that while it is important to support the education of children, it is also challenging to see taxes continuously rise. He expressed frustration about never truly owning his home due to the ongoing property tax payments.

The close vote on the propositions highlights the mixed feelings within the community about the tax increase. However, Canutillo ISD leaders are focused on utilizing the funds to improve the district and provide better opportunities for students. With the support of the community, they are optimistic about the future of education in Canutillo.
