Balancing Security and Accessibility: The Debate Over Fencing Event Entrance Fees
As the number of people participating in fencing continues to rise, there is a growing concern about security. One solution could be to implement a one-time fee at the entrance that can be paid using a debit/credit kiosk. This fee could be refundable after a day or two, and it would deter those who do not have a credit card or prefer not to be identified.
To ensure added security, a small camera could take a one-time picture at each entrance or transaction. This would provide additional assurance and recognition. With names recorded for each entrance and a picture taken, there would be proof of who was there. In the event of a stolen credit card, there would be a picture of the scammer in action.
Unfortunately, these restrictions may discourage families from spending time together with their kids at fencing events. However, as the country turns around and becomes more secure, we hope that these restrictions will no longer be necessary. These are just my thoughts on the matter.
