Schafer from VCSU clinches trap shoot state title

VCSU Trap Club Takes Home Gold in North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot!

On April 27, the Valley City State University (VCSU) Trap Club participated in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot. Freshman Kaden Schafer, majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, emerged victorious in the Singles Trap event after a two-round shoot-off to break a three-way tie. Joining Schafer in the top shots for the day were Logan Heen, Brooke Gaudry, Grant Larson, and Derek Jacobs.

The club advisor and professor, Dr. Nick Galt, expressed his excitement about participating in the event and competing against other collegiate level teams from their region. He noted that trap is a highly competitive sport and it’s great to have high-level competitors to compete against. VCSU will be launching an intercollegiate Shooting Sports team in the upcoming fall semester.

Schafer was pleased with his performance despite the windy conditions. He said, “It was a windy day and I was glad to hit 93 in those conditions. It always impresses me how much respect there is between competitors even in a high-stakes shoot-off.” For those interested in learning more about the VCSU Trap Club or the new Shooting Sports team, Dr. Galt can be contacted at nicholas.galt@vcsu.edu or by calling 701-845-7459.
