U-M Health Expands in Southeast Michigan with New Clinic and Plans for Statewide Healthcare Network”.
The University of Michigan Health has announced plans to purchase a 7.28-acre parcel in Troy, Michigan, previously home to the Kmart headquarters, for $4.42 million. The goal is to expand specialty clinical services and increase patient access in Oakland County and surrounding areas. This move is just the beginning of a larger initiative to establish a stronger U-M Health presence in southeast Michigan, according to Marschall S. Runge, CEO of Michigan Medicine.
The clinic will be part of U-M Health, the clinical division of Michigan Medicine, and is expected to offer innovative clinical programs, including multi-disciplinary cancer care. The new building will be constructed following U-M guidelines for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) to minimize negative environmental impacts. This project is one of several aimed at increasing patient access to healthcare services. Other initiatives include the upcoming D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion in Ann Arbor, set to open in 2025, and the Ypsilanti Health Center in downtown Ypsilanti, scheduled to open later this year.
