Smith County Business Receives Tax Abatement for Expansion to New Interstate Commerce Park

Tyler Interstate Commerce Park: A Hub of Economic Growth with Tiered Tax Abatements for BraunAbility and Other Expanding Businesses

In a unanimous vote, the Smith County Commissioners Court approved a 10-year tiered tax abatement for BraunAbility, a business that is expanding to the new Tyler Interstate Commerce Park in Texas. Currently, the company employs 68 workers at its manufacturing facility on SH 64 and produces automobile mobility products for people with disabilities. With this expansion, BraunAbility plans to create an additional 74 jobs with an average annual salary of $53,000.

The final step in securing the tax abatement was the approval of the tiered tax exemptions for both the company and property owners. Set to take effect on January 1, 2026, the tax exemptions will vary over the ten-year period: 80% for the first four years, 60% for the next two years, 40% for the following two years, and 20% for the final two years. As a sign of their need for additional space, BraunAbility recently stored hundreds of vans at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.

The expansion of BraunAbility is part of a larger trend of growth and development in the region. The city of Tyler recently explained that there is a large number of white vans at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport due to other companies like YellaWood maker also planning to build new facilities in the area. Additionally, the Tyler Economic Development Council announced that they have purchased 412 acres for further business development in Smith County, indicating a promising future for economic growth in the area.
