Yankees unveil 26-man roster for 2024 MLB Opening Day

The Yankees Opening Day Roster for 2024: Adapting to Injuries and Changes in Lineup

The much-anticipated 2024 season of Major League Baseball has finally arrived, with the New York Yankees set to open their doors against the Houston Astros. As is always the case in baseball, the focus of fans and analysts alike is on which players will make the 26-man roster that will kick off the season.

Unfortunately, injuries to key players like Gerrit Cole, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza have caused some changes to the projected roster. However, manager Aaron Boone remains confident in his team’s ability to perform well in spring training and a late addition to strengthen their bench depth.

As we look at the complete Yankees Opening Day roster for 2024, there are a few notable changes from last year’s lineup. Firstly, LeMahieu will be sidelined due to a foot injury, with Berti expected to fill in at third base during his absence. On the bench, there have been some shuffles as well; Ben Rortvedt was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, meaning Wells will now be the backup catcher behind Trevino. Cabrera will provide backup support for Rizzo at first base and can also play in the outfield if needed.

In terms of the rotation, with Gerrit Cole out of action this year, Gil has earned himself a fifth starter spot. His performance during this period will determine whether he remains in that role once Cole returns. Cortes has been named as Opening Day’s starter and will be looking forward to an impressive season along with Rodon.

Finally, Weaver has moved from starting pitcher to relief pitcher due to Gil’s presence in the rotation. This means that he’ll be playing a crucial role in supporting those starters throughout the season.

Overall, it seems that Aaron Boone is confident that his team can still deliver despite these changes
