Siemens AG Acquires IDT Business of ebm-papst, Expanding Its Reach in Intelligent Drive Solutions Market.

Siemens AG has announced that it will be acquiring the industrial drive technology (IDT) business of ebm-papst. The acquisition is expected to be completed by mid-2025, and the specific terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The IDT business of ebm-papst, located in St. Georgen and Lauf an der Pegnitz, Germany, and Oradea, Romania, brings a valuable portfolio of mechatronic drive systems and skilled workforce to Siemens. Cedrik Neike, a member of the managing board at Siemens AG and CEO of its Digital Industries division, stated that this acquisition is a great match for Siemens as it allows them to explore new business opportunities and expand their reach in the growing market for intelligent, battery-powered drive solutions in intralogistics and mobile robot solutions.

The IDT division currently employs approximately 650 people who manufacture fans, integrated mechatronic systems, and motion-control systems for driverless transportation. This acquisition will complement Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio and strengthen its presence in flexible production automation.

Dr. Klaus Geißdörfer, CEO of ebm-papst Group expressed that the acquisition by Siemens is a significant strategic move for their company. The integration with Siemens will provide global market access for their IDT business, opening up new avenues for innovation and growth. Proceeds from the sale of the IDT business will be reinvested to enhance their Air Technology and Heating Technology divisions, strengthen their presence in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and invest in future areas of their product portfolio such as digitalization and sustainability.
