Solving the conundrum of India’s T20 World Cup squad: A big name left out

Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh: Two Talents, One Tournament

India’s T20 World Cup squad is set to be finalized in the coming weeks, with Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh being among the players vying for a spot. While Dube has been named as the ambassador of the tournament, Rinku has been left out of contention despite his impressive international record.

Shivam Dube, 30, has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has seen a resurgence in his career since joining Chennai Super Kings in 2022. He achieved a personal milestone by scoring over 400 runs for the first time in the previous IPL season and has continued to impress this season with an impressive strike rate of 172.41. One of his notable improvements has been his ability to handle pace bowlers, which was previously overshadowed by his reputation as a spin-hitter. This development has further solidified his case for being a part of the T20 World Cup squad.

On the other hand, Rinku Singh, who was once considered a promising player in India’s T20I lineup, has found himself out of contention for the squad. Despite an impressive average and strike rate in his international matches, Rinku’s form has dipped in this season with Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored only 120 runs in nine games and was relegated to the reserve list for the upcoming tournament.
