Rómulo Roux, Opposition Candidate in Panama’s 2024 Elections, Demands an End to Corruption in Politics

Romulo Roux’s Call to Reform and Dismantle Political Corruption in Panama

Romulo Roux, the opposition presidential candidate, urged Panamanians to vote for a change in the Constitution and dismantle the political system that he believes protects corruption during a campaign closing event on Wednesday. He emphasized the need to rid the country of corrupt practices and create a system that upholds transparency and accountability at a rally in James of Veraguas.

Roux, who is 59 years old and represents the center-right, has promised to create jobs, raise minimum pensions, and revitalize the economy if elected. He also plans to build a railway connecting the capital to the western province of Chiriqui. Despite facing tough competition from candidates like José Raúl Mulino, Martin Torrijos, and Ricardo Lombana, Roux remains committed to his vision of constitutional reform and systemic change.

Roux’s political history has not deterred his supporters despite serving as chancellor and minister under former president Ricardo Martinelli. He has distanced himself from past scandals and focused on presenting a platform that resonates with the concerns of everyday citizens. With just days left until the election, Roux remains hopeful that his message of reform and progress will win over voters and usher in a new era for Panama.
