One Mile Radius, 40 Car Break-Ins: Dekalb County Community Calls for Increased Police Presence
A cluster of car break-ins in a Dekalb County community has caused frustration among business owners and employees. Over the past two months, there have been 18 incidents and a total of 40 so far this year, all taking place within a one-mile radius of Snapfinger Woods Dr. and Interstate 20. Surveillance footage has shown thieves using nearby woods and holes in fences as shortcuts and hiding places. They smash car windows, quickly snatch items, and then flee while concealing their faces with hoodies.
One customer in the bustling commercial area, Quentalyn Stephens, expressed her dismay, recalling how her car was stolen in the same location last year. She felt violated and urged action to be taken. However, business owners and workers are hesitant to speak out publicly for fear of reprisals. Despite surveillance video warnings, the presence of light and people around, the thieves continue their activities unabated.
The community is hoping for increased police patrols to tackle the issue and reduce the frequency of break-ins. The ongoing incidents have led to a sense of unease and concern among residents and business owners in the area.
