MTB World Cup Mairiporã – Jenny Rissveds clinches XCO victory with a sharp counter-attack

Jenny Rissveds of Team 31 Ibis Cycles Continental emerged victorious at the Mairiporã round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on Sunday. In the elite women’s Cross-country Olympic (XCO) race, Rissveds surged ahead in the final lap to cross the finish line solo. Haley Batten of Specialized Factory Racing and Savilia Blunk of Decathlon Ford Racing Team had led the race in the second lap, but Rissveds soon caught up. Batten tried to break away in the fourth lap, putting pressure on Blunk, but Rissveds stayed strong. In the last lap, the Swedish rider overtook Batten and sealed a clear solo victory.

Rissveds finished 27 seconds ahead of Blunk, who came in second. Batten, who had crashed after Rissveds passed her, managed to hold on for third place. Despite feeling strong, Batten admitted to being too eager and not executing her race plan properly. Chiara Teocchi of Orbea Factory Team finished fourth, followed by Jolanda Neff of Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli in fifth. Evie Richards of Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli, who had a strong start but fell back in the field, finished ninth after winning the short-track race.

The next round of the series will also be held in Brazil, in Araxá from April 19-21. The results were powered by FirstCycling.
