In a thrilling game two at home on Wednesday night, Midland Valley (13-4) softball emerged victorious over North Augusta (13-5) with a final score of 6-1. The Mustangs displayed impressive aggressive base running and strong pitching against the Jackets, who struggled to keep up after a narrow 12-7 win on Monday. With this victory, both teams are now set to compete for the region championship in a game on Friday.
According to head coach Katie Anderson of Midland Valley, the team’s turnaround can be attributed to their hard work, resilience, and determination to come back stronger. She was particularly impressed with the hitting, defense, and especially the pitching of her players in this game. Karley Bedenbaugh earned the win with an outstanding pitching performance, striking out five batters, walking five, and allowing only three hits.
The Mustangs took an early lead in the third inning when Addison Haltiwanger and Bailey Seabolt hit singles and advanced on a throw. Anslee Heath then singled to bring both runners home, giving Midland Valley a 2-0 lead. The team continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the game, adding four more runs in the following innings.
Coach Anderson was particularly impressed with her players’ speed and awareness on the bases. She commended their trust in each other and their understanding of the game. Meanwhile North Augusta had chances to score but struggled to get timely hits when needed. Despite loading the bases in the fourth inning, they were unable to capitalize on these opportunities.
With their impressive performance in all aspects of the game, Midland Valley secured their victory and put themselves in a confident position heading into the championship game.
