Racine entrepreneur responds to President’s visit

Microsoft’s $3.3 Billion Investment in Wisconsin: Restoring Hope for Racine County Residents

President Biden made a return visit to Wisconsin for the fourth time this year, promoting his administration’s Investing in America agenda and Microsoft’s $3.3 billion investment in a new data center in Mount Pleasant. The event was attended by union members, Gateway Technical College employees, and Racine County residents eager to hear about the tech giant’s significant investment in the county.

The new tech hub, which has already started construction, is expected to create over 2,000 full-time jobs once operational. Microsoft CEO Brad Smith announced that they plan to train more than 100,000 people in Wisconsin by the end of the decade to equip them with the necessary AI skills for future job opportunities. This investment brings renewed hope and excitement to the community, especially after the failed Foxconn Corporation project that was promised years ago on the same site.

Small business owner Latoya Thurmond, who runs an early education business called LaPre Academy, attended the event and left feeling energized by the investments being made in her hometown. She expressed gratitude for the restoration of hope and energy, especially seeing a Fortune 500 company like Microsoft investing in the future of the community. Construction for the data center is expected to be completed within two years.
