Israeli Army Intelligence Chief steps down due to alleged involvement in Hamas attacks

Israeli Intelligence Head Resigns Following Security Failure in Gaza Attack: Call for Accountability

On October 7, Hamas carried out attacks that resulted in the death of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of nearly 240 individuals. Israeli Army’s Intelligence head Aharon Haliva has resigned in response to his responsibility for these attacks. He has called for an investigation committee to analyze the security failures that occurred during the events.

The Israeli Army confirmed that Haliva’s resignation has been approved by Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. He will continue in his role until a replacement is appointed through an orderly and professional process. Haliva expressed his appreciation for the actions of IDF officers during the conflict that ensued after the October 7 attacks.

Haliva’s resignation marks a first time a senior political or military official in Israel has stepped down due to security failures. The attacks by Hamas and Islamic Jihad led to an Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip, resulting in numerous casualties. Opposition leader Yair Lapid has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to follow in Haliva’s footsteps and resign as well.

Lapid highlighted the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions, as demonstrated by Haliva’s resignation. He believes that Netanyahu should also step down in light of recent events. The call for accountability is crucial in maintaining the country’s security and integrity.
