Franklin Science Center evacuated for investigation of “burning odor”

Incident at Franklin Science Center: Cause of Burning Smell Still Unclear After Building Reopens

On Monday afternoon, the Franklin Science Center was evacuated after reports of a burning smell within the building. Emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department, SUPD, and university facilities responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m. Authorities deemed the building safe to reopen by 3:15 p.m., but continued to investigate the cause of the odor.

After the building was reopened, facilities personnel were seen inspecting room 108 of the Franklin Science Center, which was suspected to be the source of the smell. This is a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
