Hampden Charter School of Science East’s girls team continues their winning streak without a loss

Hampden Charter School of Science East: The Team that Overcame a Losing Streak to Secure a Hard-Earned Victory

On Tuesday, the Hampden Charter School of Science East girls’ tennis team won a hard-fought match against Frontier, despite losing two of the final three matches. The team secured a five-set victory, with standout performances from Iyanla Lewis, Tiffany Munga, and the second doubles team of Esther Ehle and Kayla Fagan.

Lewis started the matchup with a quick two-set win against Hashini Ratnatunge, giving the home team an early advantage. Munga followed suit with a victory over Isabella Sibley. However, Thanushi Ratnatunge from Frontier kept the Red Hawks in the game with a win against Lailah Whitley in the final singles matchup.

The second doubles team of Ehle and Fagan secured a crucial win in consecutive sets, but it was not enough to stop Frontier’s comeback attempt. In fact, it was only their third set that they lost all season, which marked their first loss since September 2020. Despite this setback, Hampden Charter School of Science East remains undefeated at 5-0 on the season.

Looking ahead, Hampden Charter School of Science East will take their momentum on the road against Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School. Meanwhile, Frontier will aim to turn things around in their upcoming match against Greenfield.
