Forest Futures: Navigating the Complex Relationship between Trees, Forestry, and Climate Change

On June 13th, the Pinelands Preservation Alliance is hosting a Pinelands Science Forum to discuss the pivotal relationship between forests, forestry practices, and climate change. The forum will feature distinguished speakers from various regulatory agencies, academia, and nonprofits who will share their research on the advantages of tree planting and the influence of forestry practices on carbon absorption.

Forests play a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide, but they are often heavily manipulated. The forum will delve into the tools available for identifying optimal locations for tree planting as well as the pros and cons of different forestry practices. Registration for this event is open until June 3rd with an early bird fee of $35 per person available until May 15th. After May 15th, the cost to attend will be $45.

The day-long forum will take place at the PPA’s renovated barn located at 17 Pemberton Rd. in Southampton. The barn is handicap-accessible with an elevator leading to the second floor. Attendees can expect a light breakfast and lunch, in addition to a brief tour of PPA’s Rancocas Creek Farm. Presentations from the event will be recorded and made available publicly for those unable to attend in person.

To register for this event, visit the Pinelands Preservation Alliance website at pinelandsalliance.org. For any questions or inquiries about the event, please contact Jaclyn Rhoads, assistant executive director at jaclyn@pinelandsalliance
