Facing Mental Health: Cumming’s First Annual Summit Takes Place This Month

The city of Cumming is hosting its first annual Mental Health Summit later this month as part of the national recognition of May as mental health awareness month. During a recent city council meeting, Mayor Troy Brumbalow officially declared May as mental health awareness month, emphasizing the importance of breaking down barriers and creating a supportive environment for mental health conversations.

The Mental Health Summit will take place on Monday, May 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center on Ronald Reagan Parkway. The event is being led by the Forsyth County Mental Health & Wellness Advocates group.

Mary Shaffer, a member of the group, shared more information about the summit, including the lineup of speakers. Speakers will include Maureen Bixler from Live Life Counseling, former Georgia State Representative Mike Dudgeon, Commissioner Cindy Mills, and a resident sharing a personal testimony about the mental health challenges faced by youth in schools and the wellness needs of the community.

This year’s summit will focus on the theme “Faces of Mental Health,” with an aim to shed light on various aspects of mental health and well-being.
