Resources for Mental Health Awareness Month Offered by SLO County

Embracing Mental Health: Transitions-Mental Health Association’s Community Engagement Efforts for a Healthier San Luis Obispo

In San Luis Obispo, over 5,300 individuals and their families received services from Transitions-Mental Health Association last year. As the community engagement director, Michael Kaplan emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness, especially during May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month. Despite the challenges of mental illness, there are various resources available for support, including hotlines, wellness centers, and community events like the Open Minds Community Art Show.

Jill Bolster-White, the executive director at Transitions-Mental Health Association, highlights the intensive services provided for those seeking stability in their mental health journey. Brooke Clever, the lead health navigator at Transitions-Mental Health Association and a therapist herself who helps patients set up recovery goals and strategies, speaks from her own experiences managing anxiety and depression. By sharing her journey, Clever aims to break down the stigmas surrounding mental health and connect with her clients on a deeper level.

Throughout May, Transitions-Mental Health Association will be hosting the Open Minds Community Art Show, showcasing the connection between art and mental wellness. Additionally, there will be three wellness center open houses for individuals to learn more about the resources available to support their mental health needs. These events provide opportunities for education
