Economy Minister Conor Murphy Takes Medical Leave, First Minister Michelle O’Neill Announces Interim Appointment of Deirdre Hargey

First Minister Michelle O’Neill has announced that Economy Minister Conor Murphy will be stepping down from his position due to medical reasons. She stated that he had been advised by his doctor to take a break from his role and will be replaced by former Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey until he is fit to return.

O’Neill expressed her well wishes for Murphy’s speedy recovery and confirmed Hargey’s appointment as interim Economy Minister. She mentioned that Murphy will undergo further medical tests as advised by his doctor.

In recent news, Conor Murphy had also informed the Covid-19 Inquiry that he would not be able to appear before it due to medical concerns. He was expected to attend a scheduled appearance on Tuesday.
