Goodbye Message to DOE Office of Science Staff from the Departing Director

Director Reflects on Progress and Future of Inclusivity in the Office of Science

The Office of Science has made significant progress towards being more inclusive, accessible, and equitable than ever before. While there is still work to be done, I am proud of how far we have come. This includes the implementation of new initiatives such as RENEW, FAIR, and PIER plans, as well as our efforts to evaluate our culture and processes and make necessary changes.

Individuals across the office are actively engaging with communities through office hours, site visits, and conference engagements. This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the federal resources we manage serve the public equitably. As Director of Science, my hope is that the Office of Science will continue to be a place where everyone feels a sense of belonging and purpose, regardless of their role in enabling science.

As I move on from my position, I encourage the Office of Science to remain committed to educating, inspiring, and sharing the wonder of discovery with all stakeholders. Additionally, I believe that in a world facing the climate crisis, it is important for us to set an example by operating sustainably. I am hopeful that the Office of Science and DOE will continue to champion inclusivity and diversity in the scientific community.

Serving as Director of Science has been an honor beyond words and I am grateful for having worked alongside such dedicated colleagues. Thank you for making my time here at the Office so meaningful.
