Climate Change and Primary Care: Nurse Practitioner Dr. Alex Hodges Shares Insights at Upcoming Presentation

Dr. Alex Hodges is a clinical professor in the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education at East Carolina University, with a focus on climate change and its impacts in Eastern North Carolina. She has worked with organizations such as Americares and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and is actively involved in providing primary care at the Community Care Clinic of Dare, as well as serving on the Dare County Board of Health and Human Services.

Her upcoming presentation, titled “Ready for Change: Building Effective Climate Readiness,” will take place on Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m., as part of the “Science on the Sound” lecture series held at the Coastal Studies Institute on the ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese. The series features speakers from across the state and focuses on coastal topics in northeastern North Carolina. This event is open to the public free of charge, and will also be live-streamed on the Coastal Studies Institute YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.

The presentation will offer a nurse practitioner’s perspective on climate change and its implications for primary care, as well as strategies for being better prepared for related challenges. The “Science on the Sound” series aims to provide diverse perspectives on coastal issues and is an excellent opportunity to learn more about climate change and its impact on the local community.
