Celebrating STEM Education and Journalism: Southern State’s Computer Science Department Hosts MiniDome Day and Launches Summer Semester

Southern State’s Computer Science Department, under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Joshua Montgomery, organized a STEM MiniDome Celebration Day on May 1st at COSI in Columbus. Students from Reynoldsburg and Zane Trace participated in various activities. The day began with Dr. Montgomery’s opening remarks, followed by Eric Jacobs from the TSJ Foundation. Special guests included Jason Messick from COSI and Dr. Ayanna Howard from The Ohio State University. Awards were given for categories such as exceptional paint job, exceptional operations, exceptional electronics, crazy cabling, and best of show.

Dr. Montgomery expressed his appreciation for the students’ participation and thanked COSI for hosting the event and providing space and hospitality. The Computer Science Program at Southern State offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Technology, allowing students to choose two focus areas from pathways such as Networking, Programming, Cybersecurity, and Robotics. This program equips students with in-demand skills in a flexible, affordable, and enjoyable learning environment while also fostering connections with local companies for internships and job opportunities.

Registration is currently open for Summer Semester starting on May 20th and Fall Semester starting on August 26th.
