UNESCO Partners with Cambodia for 2024 Science, Technology and Innovation Day

Cambodia Celebrates STI Day with a Focus on Small and Medium Enterprises: UNESCO Promotes Science, Technology, and Innovation for Socio-Economic Development

In March 2024, the Kingdom of Cambodia celebrated its Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Day with the theme “Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Go STI”. The event was organized by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) and held at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center. UNESCO actively participated in the event, highlighting the crucial role of STI in driving socio-economic development.

The three-day event attracted over 31,000 attendees, including Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, and H.E. Hem Vanndy, the Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation. The event emphasized how STI could tackle global challenges such as poverty, healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability. Cambodia’s commitment to STI was evident through initiatives like the national STI Roadmap 2030 and increased investments outlined in the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1.

UNESCO has been actively promoting STI in Cambodia across various sectors. The organization’s initiatives have enabled UNESCO to collaborate with the Ministry in hosting events that showcase the importance of STI.
