Agriculture in Wayland: A New Chapter with a Boost from Eichelberger Farms

In Wayland, the WACO Ag program and FFA Chapter are set to receive a new Agricultural Science Center from Eichelberger Farms. The facility will feature two classrooms, two locker rooms, a kitchen, specialized rooms for rabbits, poultry, and swine, pens for large animals, as well as a greenhouse. Additionally, a conference room will be available for meetings with community partners who provide real-world experience to students.

The Ag program was reintroduced in 2021 with the hiring of Agriculture Instructor and FFA Advisor Ethan Fetzer. Since then, enrollment has grown to 135 students in just three years. The program offers opportunities for classroom instruction in plant science, animal science, and mechanics. Students can also participate in the National FFA Organization and Supervised Ag Experiences (SAE) projects. The FFA chapter provides leadership opportunities and participation in state and national events to promote students’ potential for leadership, growth, and career success through hands-on learning experiences.

With the construction of the new learning center set to begin in fall 2024 or spring 2025 on the current High School campus in Wayland, students will have even more opportunities to explore various aspects of agriculture and make informed decisions about their post-graduation career paths.
