Addressing Rural Disparities: SBA Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed Kicks Off National Tour in Rapid City, South Dakota

Dilawar Syed, the Deputy Administrator of the US Small Business Administration, kicked off his nationwide tour in Rapid City, South Dakota. During his visit, he emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses in rural communities like those in South Dakota. Syed noted that these areas are often overlooked when it comes to investment and resources.

He highlighted the need for equity across all regions, both rural and metro, and the significance of intentional efforts to bridge the gap between them. Syed stressed that small business owners in rural areas face unique challenges that require targeted support.

Syed mentioned that a key step in addressing these disparities is through legislation such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is helping to provide access to affordable internet for thousands of households and businesses in South Dakota. However, he acknowledged that there is still much work to be done in closing the divides that exist within the country.

As part of his role, Syed travels to rural areas to meet with individuals and businesses, gaining a firsthand understanding of the specific needs and challenges they face. He noted that these interactions serve as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that everyone has access to opportunities for growth and success. By investing in these communities and supporting small businesses in rural areas, Syed believes that progress can be made towards achieving greater equity and economic development for all individuals and regions across the country.

Syed’s visit to Rapid City was an opportunity for him to connect with small business owners and community leaders who share his passion for creating opportunities for growth and success. Through his work with the Small Business Administration, Syed hopes to make a difference in communities like Rapid City by providing resources and support to help small businesses thrive.
