Achieving Excellence: Hauppauge Middle School Students Excel at 2024 PWGC Science Fair

Hauppauge Middle School students Mihir Sathish Kumar, Ishaan Maheshkumar, and Vaibhavi Hedge were recently recognized for their outstanding achievements at the 2024 PWGC Science Fair. The trio received awards for their research projects in first, second, and third place, respectively.

Mihir Sathish Kumar earned first place with his project on microplastic filtration, which involved developing a system to filter out microplastics from water sources. His innovative approach earned him a $1,000 cash prize and recognition from the district and the scientific community.

Ishaan Maheshkumar took second place for his project on energy conservation using the Seebeck Effect. He developed a device that could harness heat energy from waste materials to generate electricity, reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Ishaan received a $500 cash prize and praise from the district and his science research teacher, Janice Caffrey.

Vaibhavi Hedge placed third for her research on creating biodegradable plastic. She experimented with different types of plastics and found a way to make them break down naturally without harming the environment. Vaibhavi received a $250 prize for her innovative approach to solving one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges.

The Hauppauge School District commended the students for their exceptional achievements and recognized their hard work. The Director of Science and Research, Robert Wankmuller, congratulated the winners and their science research teacher for their dedication and success at the science fair. The district expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments and their contributions to the field of science.
