Erie County Health Department Awarded $4.3M to Improve Health Services and Programs

$4.3 Million in Funding Boosts Erie County Community Health Center’s Services

The Erie County Health Department has received $4,334,730 in funding from the Health Resources and Services Agency (HRSA) for the Erie County Community Health Center. This center is the only comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center in the tri-county area that includes Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties. The funding will be used to continue providing primary care, dental, and mental health services through the Health Center’s eight locations across the region.

Federally Qualified Health Centers play a crucial role in public health infrastructure by aiming to improve the health of underserved communities through offering comprehensive, culturally competent, and high-quality primary health care services. Erie County Health Commissioner Pete Schade expressed gratitude for the grant and emphasized the importance of collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the health and well-being of all residents in Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties.

This grant from HRSA is part of a national Service Area Competition, with only 160 programs being selected for support. The grant period for the Erie County Community Health Center will run from June 2024 to May 2027. The HRSA administers a program that supports nonprofit organizations that provide primary health care services to medically underserved populations.
