Youth sports organizations are in need of coaches as participation rates continue to increase

Youth Sports in Palm Beach County: The Urgent Need for Volunteer Coaches as the New Season Begins

As the new season of sports begins, the demand for volunteer coaches in youth leagues is at an all-time high. In Boynton Beach, recreation supervisor Todd Johnson emphasized the importance of having extra volunteer coaches on standby to provide flexibility and support for the 200 to 300 kids participating in youth sports. Kim Kendall, who spends two hours a day training her son at Hester Community Center, echoed Johnson’s sentiments, stressing that youth coaches play a crucial role in providing structure, support, and motivation to children.

In Palm Beach Gardens, Manolo Calvo, president of the Palm Beach Gardens Youth Athletic Association, highlighted the ongoing need for volunteer coaches to run most recreational sports teams. This allows the organization to operate for free or at a low cost to families, ensuring that children have access to sports programs regardless of their financial background. With thousands of kids involved in various sports programs across the community, there is a significant need for volunteers to step up and become coaches or assistant coaches.

Parents, guardians, and community members are encouraged to consider volunteering as coaches or assistants in youth sports programs. By getting involved, individuals can make a lasting impact on children’s lives and contribute to the success of youth sports in their community. Volunteer coaching can be an excellent opportunity for people who want to give back and make a difference in their community while also learning new skills and building lifelong friendships with other volunteers.
