Laurie Sullivan, a Project Discovery science/STEM teacher at Arlington’s Barrett Elementary School, has been honored as one of the finalists for the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. This award is recognized as the top honor for K-12 teachers working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.
Alongside Sullivan, two other educators from Virginia were also named finalists for the award. One hails from Goochland County and the other from Martinsville. These finalists were selected by review committees organized by the Virginia Department of Education.
The superintendent of public instruction, Lisa Coons, expressed pride in recognizing and honoring these three Virginia teachers who have been chosen as finalists. She stated that they will represent the commonwealth in the national selection process conducted by the White House.
The national selection committee will now review their applications before announcing the winners of the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. This prestigious recognition celebrates the contributions and achievements of educators in STEM fields.
