UConn Final Four Departure Delayed by Plane Malfunction, Arriving in Arizona 6 Hours Late.

UConn Men’s Basketball Team Faces Challenges Ahead of Final Four with Long Travel Delay and Scheduling Conflicts

UConn men’s basketball team is set to compete in the Final Four this weekend, but they are low on rest after a six-hour travel delay caused by mechanical issues with their charter plane. The Huskies were supposed to leave Storrs, Connecticut at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, but ended up departing at midnight due to the delay. The defending champions are expected to land around 1:45 a.m. local time in Phoenix.

The other three teams in the tournament, Alabama and Purdue, arrived in Phoenix on Tuesday while NC State got there on Wednesday afternoon. Despite not being scheduled to play until Saturday, the teams must follow practice and appearance schedules as part of the build-up to the event.

UConn athletic director Dave Benedict expressed disappointment with the situation and worked on alternative travel options for the team. However, he hinted at leaving some members of the travel party behind to avoid refueling stops on a smaller replacement plane.

On the other hand, UConn’s women’s team had a smoother travel experience and is also in the Final Four. The men’s team is seeded No. 1 overall and advanced to the Final Four with a dominant victory over Illinois in the Elite Eight. They have been on an impressive run of ten consecutive double-digit wins in March Madness since their championship-winning campaign last season. The men’s team will face Alabama in their first test at 8:49 p.m
