Two folks have been arrested just after Just Quit Oil protesters disrupted the evening session of the Planet Snooker Championship in Sheffield.
A man wearing a “Just Quit Oil” T-shirt interrupted the match in between Robert Milkins and Joe Perry at the Crucible Theatre by jumping onto 1 of the tables and tipping out orange powder.
A lady was prevented from executing a related stunt on the other table by the referee Olivier Marteel.
South Yorkshire Police mentioned a 30-year-old man and a 52-year-old lady have been arrested on suspicion of criminal harm and are in police custody.
The force mentioned in a statement: “Two folks have been detained just after protesters gained entry to The Crucible earlier this evening.
“A 30-year-old man and a 52-year-old lady have been arrested on suspicion of criminal harm. Each are in police custody.”
Play was suspended for the evening on the impacted table, which will be re-covered overnight.
It is the second time in 3 days that a big international sporting occasion has been disrupted, just after 118 folks have been arrested at Aintree on Saturday as they attempted to scale the perimeter fence at the Grand National.
Just Quit Oil also issued a statement which mentioned: “At about 7.20pm, two Just Quit Oil supporters have disrupted the Planet Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, interrupting play.
“The pair proceeded to cover the tables in orange powder paint prior to becoming removed by safety and arrested.
“They are demanding that the Government right away quit all new UK fossil fuel projects and are calling on UK sporting institutions to step into civil resistance against the Government’s genocidal policies.”
