New commissioner potentially named for American Athletic Conference – NBC10 Philadelphia

Tim Pernetti on the Brink of Becoming New Commissioner of American Athletic Conference: What to Expect in the Future

The American Athletic Conference is on the brink of hiring Tim Pernetti, a former Rutgers athletic director, as its next commissioner. Sources close to the matter have confirmed that Pernetti, a New Jersey native and ex-Rutgers football player, is currently serving as the president of IMG Academy in Florida. While the deal has not been officially announced yet, it is in its final stages of completion.

According to reports, Pernetti was identified as the frontrunner for the position after Yahoo! Sports first reported that the AAC had set its sights on him. Prior to his tenure at Rutgers from 2009-2013, Pernetti worked in sports programming for ABC and was instrumental in launching College Sports Television. During his time at Rutgers, he played a key role in securing the school’s membership in the Big Ten conference. However, he resigned from his position following a scandal involving abuse of players by the men’s basketball coach.

As the AAC prepares for its upcoming football season, it is set to welcome new members while bidding farewell to others as it continues to evolve. With Pernetti’s appointment expected soon, it will be interesting to see how he navigates these changes and leads this dynamic conference into the future.
