Tiger Woods, a 15-time major winner, has been confirmed as one of the 156 starters for next week’s 106th PGA Championship at Valhalla. Along with Woods, the top 103 golfers in the world have also been named in the field for the prestigious tournament.
Rory McIlroy, another top player in the world rankings, has also won a PGA Championship at Valhalla in 2014. The field for this year’s tournament includes 33 major winners, with 16 of them having previously won the PGA Championship.
Defending champion Brooks Koepka is among the LIV Golf League players who will be competing, along with other top players like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Cameron Smith. In addition to the established players, the field also includes 21 club professionals, 20 qualifiers, and last year’s LIV season champion Talor Gooch. Gooch will be looking to improve on his performance from last year, where he missed the cut but previously finished 20th in 2022.
Woods has struggled with injuries since a car crash in 2021 but has expressed his desire to compete more frequently. He recently finished 60th in last month’s Masters and has accepted a special invitation to play in next month’s US Open. The last time Woods played in the PGA Championship was three years ago when he withdrew after three rounds due to injury.
