Did Alexander the Great Actually Die from Being Buried Alive? Analyzing the Evidence from a Scientific Perspective

The Enduring Mystery of Alexander the Great’s Death: Was He Buried Alive or Did He Suffer from a Rare Disease?

Scholars and enthusiasts continue to be captivated by the legacy of Alexander the Great, who passed away in 323 BC at the young age of 25. By then, he had managed to establish the largest empire in the ancient world. However, one mystery surrounding his death has persisted over centuries: did he die naturally or was he buried alive?

According to Newsweek, Alexander was suffering from a rare disease at the time of his death, which may have led historians to consider that he could have been mistaken for dead during embalming. In those times, practices like embalming and burial rites were varied and could have led to misunderstandings about life and death. Encyclopaedia Britannica reports that Alexander died on June 13 after collapsing during a party where he was challenged to drink a large amount of wine. Despite being declared dead, his body did not decay as expected, leading some to believe that he was a god.

The possibility of being buried alive is intriguing, but there are also other explanations for his death. Some historians suggest that Alexander’s autoimmune disease caused him to become partially paralyzed towards the end of his life, making it difficult for doctors to confirm his death before burial. Other theories include natural causes such as malaria or typhoid fever or foul play like poisoning or assassination.

Despite numerous theories and speculations surrounding Alexander’s death and burial, there is still much debate among historians today about what truly happened. His legacy continues to inspire many people worldwide due to his remarkable achievements in conquering vast territories at such a young age.
