Ottawa Senators acquire goalie Linus Ullmark from Boston Bruins in trade

The Boston Bruins’ Major Goaltending Move: Sending Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators and Acquiring Joonas Korpisalo

The Boston Bruins have recently made a major trade, sending goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. This move was necessary as Jeremy Swayman has emerged as the number one goalie in Boston, leading to Ullmark being traded. Despite their friendly relationship and hugs after victories, the Bruins needed to make a change due to Swayman’s rise and Ullmark’s impending free agency.

In return for Ullmark, the Bruins received goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, forward Mark Kastelic, and the 25th overall pick in the 2024 draft from the Senators. Ottawa will also retain 25% of Korpisalo’s salary. Korpisalo struggled during his time with the Senators, posting a 3.27 goals-against average and .890 save percentage, while Ullmark had a stronger performance with a 2.57 GAA and .917 save percentage.

This trade is just one of several major goaltending moves happening in the NHL this month. The New Jersey Devils acquired Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames and the Los Angeles Kings acquired Darcy Kuemper from the Washington Capitals. Goalie movement seems to be a trend this off-season as teams look to solidify their goaltending positions for the upcoming season.
