Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin Hospitalized with Bladder Problems, Continues to Perform Duties while Receiving Medical Evaluation

The US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, was hospitalized with suspected bladder problems, according to a statement from Pentagon press secretary Patrick Ryder. Austin was taken to Walter Reed for evaluation after experiencing symptoms consistent with bladder problems. Despite being in the hospital, he continues to perform his duties and has access to all communication channels.

In January, Austin was released from the hospital after treatment for prostate cancer, which was diagnosed at an early stage. He had undergone a prostatectomy on December 22 and experienced complications that led to readmission to the hospital on January 1. At 70 years old, Austin has been serving as the head of the Pentagon since January 2021. His health has been closely monitored since then.
