Jaelyne Matthews chooses Rutgers football over Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee

Rutgers Lands Top-Ranked Jersey Offensive Tackle as Recruiting Surges to New Heights

In the spring of 2025, offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews from Toms River North in New Jersey announced his college commitment. On Tuesday, he chose to commit to Rutgers football, which surprised many with his decision. Despite having offers from Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee, Matthews ultimately decided on Rutgers.

Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 337 pounds, Matthews is currently playing offensive tackle for his high school team. His commitment to Rutgers makes him the highest-ranked verbal commit from New Jersey and the top commit in the 2025 class. This is a significant pick-up for Rutgers as he is ranked No. 93 in the nation by ESPN and a top-25 offensive tackle in the On3 Industry Rankings.

Matthews’ impressive rankings are not all that he has going for him. He has also been selected to play in the prestigious Under Armour All-America Game. His commitment to Rutgers adds to a strong class that is currently ranked in the top-15 nationally for recruiting.

Notably, Matthews’ commitment to Rutgers comes after two other four-star recruits committed to the program in just three days – safety Tariq Hayer on Sunday following an official visit and offensive lineman Josh Blackston on Monday. Matthews received his first offer from Rutgers after his freshman season and demonstrates his loyalty to the program by choosing to stay close to home and join the Scarlet Knights.
