Rose returns to the scene of his past success as the 152nd Open Championship kicks off at Royal Troon

The 152nd Open Championship is set to take place at Royal Troon from July 18-21. Justin Rose, a former amateur runner-up and consistent performer at the Open Championship, has qualified for the major after finishing his day at Burnham Burrow on eight under par. He tied for the top spot with fellow Englishman Dominic Clemons, who had narrowly missed out on qualifying less than two weeks earlier in the Amateur Championship final.

Rose, who has participated in the major every year since 2007 when he was healthy, is looking forward to his return to one of golf’s most prestigious events. Unfortunately, his ex-Ryder Cup teammate Sergio Garcia fell short of qualifying for the second year in a row, finishing two strokes shy of the top four at West Lancashire.

Three other Englishmen also secured qualifying spots: Sam Horsfield, Dan Brown, and amateur Matthew Dodd-Berry. Jack McDonald of Ayrshire also successfully qualified at Dundonald Links, just a short distance from Troon. Irish amateur Liam Nolan performed well and finished joint second at this qualifying event.

Matthew Southgate posted the best score at Royal Cinque Ports on six under par. Despite his efforts, Garcia’s low world ranking as a member of LIV Golf means he currently only qualifies for the Masters as a former champion. The field for this year’s Open Championship is shaping up to be one of the strongest yet, with many talented golfers vying for victory on one of golf’s most challenging courses.
