Rising Stars: Ewing and Kupcho’s Close Call at Dow Championship Boosts Solheim Cup Hopes
Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho came close to winning the recent Dow Championship, but ultimately fell short to Ruoning Yin and Atthaya Thitikul. Despite this setback, both Americans saw improvements in their chances of making the Solheim Cup team. Currently, Ewing holds the third spot in U.S. points, while Kupcho has risen to 12th place. The top seven players after the AIG Women’s Open on Aug. 25 will automatically qualify for the American team. Two additional spots will be given to the top two U.S. players in the Rolex Rankings who are not in the top seven in points, which currently includes Alison Lee at No. 22 and Angel Yin at No. 31. Kupcho is currently ranked at No. 50, leaving her in contention for selection as well.
The remaining three spots on the 12-player U.S. Solheim Cup squad will be selected as captain’s picks by LPGA Tour commissioner Mike Davis and his staff of assistant captains, including Michelle Wie West and Jessica Korda, among others
