Richard E. ‘Dick’ Mitchell: Latest News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

Dick Mitchell, a beloved figure in the community of Altoona, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday. He was 79 years old and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Terry Cowher, as well as two sons, Grant and Brian. Dick retired from Norfolk Southern Corp. after 31 years of service as a machinist and foreman. He also owned and operated Dick’s Train Store in Juniata for many years, where he was known as DJ Spinner for 15 years.

Dick was a dedicated member of the Alto Model Train Association Inc., where he spent countless hours with friends and members of local model train clubs. He cherished his family deeply and took great pride in serving two years in the U.S. Navy as a Radar man.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., located at 719 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona. Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Park.
